Breed diseases that you should know before raising them
Each disease below is based on veterinary resources listed at the end of the section. And also tell what the general maintenance is like. This does not mean that every dog or cat of this breed will. But it is a more common risk than other breeds.
Like other short-faced breeds, the flat face of the Pug restricts airflow, and the VCA specifically states that Pugs are at risk of overheating. Because panting cannot dissipate heat efficiently.

PetMD's Pug breed web page states that the shape of a Pug's skull means the eye sockets are very shallow. Therefore, the eyelids are often not large enough to close completely. And bulging eyes can easily be scratched, poked, or in extreme cases, thrown out of their sockets ('pop out'). or the eyelid not closing properly is the main cause that often leads to painful corneal ulcers.
Care guidelines: Use artificial tears and protect your eyes from concussion to prevent it. Use antibiotic eye drops or eyelid support surgery for existing corneal ulcers.
